Rates and energy-change experiments come up again and again in IGCSE practical papers. Collect gas in a virtual syringe, read rate graphs, decide which curve matches a change in conditions, and work out temperature and energy changes. Fresh data every time, with worked solutions.

Gas volumes read from the syringe scale to the nearest 1 cm³, and temperatures to the precision of the thermometer.
The total volume where the curve levels off, and mean rate = volume / time.
A faster reaction gives a steeper start. The final volume depends only on the amount of the limiting reactant.
A temperature rise means exothermic and a fall means endothermic; energy = mass × 4.2 × temperature change.
The marking follows the conventions in published Cambridge mark schemes. The experiments, readings and wording on this page are our own.
