Seven 3D simulations covering Topic 9: circulatory systems (9.1), the heart (9.2), blood vessels (9.3) and blood (9.4). Extended content is marked.
A circulatory system is a system of blood vessels with a pump and valves that keep the blood flowing one way. A fish has a single circulation: blood passes through the heart once per circuit. A mammal has a double circulation: twice per circuit, once to the lungs and once to the body.
The heart is a muscular pump with four chambers. Blood is pumped away from the heart in arteries and returns in veins. Turn the cut-away heart, click its parts, then play a heartbeat to see the chambers contract and the valves open and close.
Heart activity can be monitored with an ECG, by taking the pulse and by listening to the valves closing with a stethoscope. Investigate how physical activity changes the heart rate, and how quickly it returns to normal afterwards.
The coronary arteries supply the heart muscle itself with oxygen and glucose. Fatty deposits can build up in their walls, narrowing them, and a blood clot can block one completely. Choose the risk factors and run the years.
The three kinds of blood vessel have different structures because they carry blood at very different pressures and do different jobs. Compare their walls and lumens, then watch blood flow through each.
Name the main blood vessels to and from the heart, lungs and kidneys, and, for the Supplement, the liver. Click a vessel, or pick one from the list, and follow the blood.
Blood is red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets carried in a liquid called plasma. Look at a sample, then watch the white blood cells defend the body and the platelets seal a wound.

Transport in animals is a free, browser-based simulation for Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 (topic 9 Transport in animals). The course is assessed in Paper 1/2 (Multiple choice), Paper 3/4 (Theory), Paper 5 (Practical Test), Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical). Syllabus for examination in 2026-2028. There are 7 tabs, each a self-contained experiment with its own controls and live readings, and nothing to install: it runs on a laptop, tablet or classroom projector.
