Trap a Wave Between Two Ends

Step through the harmonics of a string fixed at both ends and watch the nodes stay still while the antinodes oscillate. The node spacing gives the wavelength.

Mission Predict the separation of two adjacent nodes on a stationary wave. Streak 0Best 0
Two adjacent nodes on a stationary wave are separated by:
systemstring (fixed–fixed)
harmonic1
nodes shown2
wavelength2L
Nodes (zero amplitude) and antinodes (maximum) are fixed in place; adjacent nodes are λ/2 apart. A fixed or closed end forces a node; an open end forces an antinode, so a closed pipe gives only the odd harmonics.
