A mains appliance is fed by three wires: live, neutral and earth. Connect each terminal to the right coloured wire, switch on to see the current flow, then cause a fault and watch the earth wire and fuse work together to make the metal case safe. Disconnect the earth and try the fault again to see why it matters.
