Paper 5 is a written paper with no apparatus, worth 30 marks: one question asks you to plan, the other hands you data to process and evaluate. Work through eight sets covering what keeps coming back: making a standard solution, dilution series, titration plans, variables and hazards, calculated columns, best-fit lines and gradients, orders and half-lives, and percentage errors. Every question uses fresh numbers, is marked as you go, and has a worked solution. Exam mode mixes the sets with no feedback until the end. Allow 10 to 15 minutes per set.

Masses and volumes calculated correctly, the volumetric flask method in a workable order (dissolve, transfer with washings, make up to the mark, invert), named apparatus with its capacity, and a precaution tied to a specific hazard.
Calculated columns correct and given to a consistent number of decimal places or significant figures, such as 1/T to 3 s.f. and logarithms to 2 or 3 d.p., with the anomaly identified and explained.
A straight line of best fit that ignores the circled anomaly, a gradient from two points far apart on the line, and the gradient turned into a quantity such as Ea = −gradient × R, with its sign and units.
Percentage errors from the apparatus uncertainties, the percentage difference from a data value compared with the total error, systematic versus random errors, and an improvement that really reduces the error.
The marking follows the conventions in published Cambridge mark schemes. The experiments, readings and wording on this page are our own.
