Privacy & student data
How the TheLucidSTEM Teacher Portal handles data, written plainly.
Last updated: 25 June 2026
The rest of TheLucidSTEM (lessons, simulations and practice) is free and needs no account. This page is only about the Teacher Portal, where a teacher can set quizzes and see scores.
What students give us
A student joins a class with a class code and a display name, nothing else.
- No email address, no password, no real name required.
- No date of birth, no contact details, no location.
- Student accounts are anonymous: from the data we hold, we cannot identify a student.
The display name is chosen so the teacher can recognise their own students. We suggest a first name and last initial, never a full name or anything private.
What teachers give us
A teacher signs in with an email address (used only to send a one-time sign-in code) and may add their name and school, which appear on their own classes. That is all.
What we store
- The classes a teacher creates and their join codes.
- The assignments a teacher sets.
- Students' quiz answers and the resulting scores, kept against the display name inside that class.
Quiz answer keys are checked on our server and are never sent to a student's browser.
How it is used
Only to run your classes and show you the gradebook. We do not sell or share data, and there is no advertising and no third-party tracking anywhere in the portal.
Cookies
When you sign in, a sign-in token is stored in your browser so you stay logged in. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
Deleting data
A teacher can delete a class at any time from the class page. Deleting a class permanently erases its students, its assignments and all of their scores, and cannot be undone. For any other request, just email us.
Where it is hosted
The website is served by Cloudflare. Portal data is held in a managed database (Supabase) and is encrypted in transit.
