Paper 3 workout · Question 2 style · 16 marks

Two readings, one verdict, eight evaluation marks.

Question 2 of 9702 Paper 3 is short on measurements and long on judgement. Measure the ramp height through the magnifier, time the ball yourself, decide whether your two values of k support the relationship, then pick out the limitations and improvements that actually earn marks. Every attempt uses a different ramp. Allow about 45 minutes.

How this question is marked

Measurements (a) to (c)

h to the nearest millimetre, a sensible percentage uncertainty, and repeated stopwatch timings at two different heights.

The relationship (d)

Two correct values of k, then a percentage difference compared with a criterion you state, and a conclusion that follows from the comparison.

Limitations (e)(i)

Four different, specific problems with this experiment. “Human error” and “inaccurate equipment” score nothing.

Improvements (e)(ii)

Four specific changes, each dealing with the limitation it is paired with.

Habits that save marks
