Paper 5 · Paper 6 · Planning

Plan it like an examiner wants.

The 0625 practical papers include a question where you plan an experiment instead of doing one. Marks go to the apparatus, a clear method, the variables you control, a results table, and how you would reach a conclusion. Practise each part on a bank of experiments.

What examiners look for

Apparatus

The apparatus you need, including the measuring instruments, and nothing irrelevant.

Method

Clear steps in a logical order: what you change, what you measure and how.

Control variables

The things you keep the same so the test is fair.

Results table

Columns for the quantity you change and the quantity you measure, with units in the headings.

Conclusion

How you will use the results, usually by plotting a graph and describing the trend.

Habits that save marks

The marking follows the conventions in published Cambridge mark schemes. The experiments, readings and wording on this page are our own.
