Paper 5 · Paper 6 · Tables

Tables that score every mark.

Nearly every 0625 practical question asks you to complete a results table. The marks go to clear headings with units, readings recorded consistently, and sensible calculated values. Practise each skill with fresh readings, find the mistakes in another student’s table, then test yourself in Exam mode.

What examiners look for

Headings with units

Each column shows the quantity and its unit, for example l / cm.

Units in the heading only

The numbers in the table have no units next to them.

Consistent readings

All the readings in a column have the same number of decimal places, matching the instrument.

Calculated values

Calculated values are correct and given to 2 or 3 significant figures. Differences such as an extension keep the decimal places of the readings.

Enough readings

Take the number of readings the question asks for, spread across the range.

Habits that save marks

The marking follows the conventions in published Cambridge mark schemes. The experiments, readings and wording on this page are our own.
